‘Small Works’ Make a Big Impact

Grab your glasses and get ready to focus on small art with a huge visual impact. Local artists contributed over 70 miniature paintings and artistic trading cards to 'Small Works'.  The exhibit which is organized and curated by the Morristown Art Association (MAA) will be on display for August and September in the Morristown Hamblen Library Media Room.

These unique miniature artworks measure 4 by 4 inches and consist of a wide range of mediums from watercolor to burnt etching on cardboard. You can find abstract oil paintings alongside traditional landscapes. While the artwork may be pint sized, ‘Small Works’ is not insignificant. Miniature art is most often extremely detailed work, exquisite in color with a strength of composition which can more than compete with larger paintings.

Miniature painting has become more and more popular in recent years. There are numerous miniature art societies promoting this tiny art form and sponsoring numerous miniature painting and sculpture exhibitions. As in other forms of art, masterfully painted miniatures leave a lasting impression and contain richness and refined quality that carry across a room in spite their small size.

‘Small Works’ is one in a series of rotating, ongoing exhibits featuring MAA artists displayed at the library year round. The Morristown Hamblen Library is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 am-5:30 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am-8:00 pm.
